Biography Darius Turner is a landscape photographer based in Sydney, Australia. Until the age of two Darius spent his formative years living at Freshwater Beach, enjoying coastal views and the sea air. When his two younger brothers were born the family was forced to move west, to a larger house with a big backyard to accommodate the three growing boys. "Freshwater is still my favourite beach. I love jumping in the car on a hot summer's day and heading out to the area were I lived as a toddler. Photography has given me a chance to explore the area even more now, and I often go to the Northern Beaches looking for a new perspective to shoot from" says Darius. While still in primary school Darius was given his first camera by his uncle. "I always had an interest in photography, and when my Uncle Kevin gave me my first camera I was fascinated. The only problem was the price of film and getting photos developed, which as a primary school student was pretty tough with only a few dollars of pocket money each week!". Through high school Darius developed an interest in new media, particularly web design and digital design. He created several websites, and found the ability to produce work in this area opened doors in the real world. "When I was in high school not too many people really understood how they could make their own website. I found that a lot of older people were impressed with this skill and offered me various bits of work here and there. I really enjoyed the creative side of web design but also found that aspects of this role were monotonous, and that sitting in front of a computer for hours on end wasn't much fun!". Darius graduated high school as school captain, with a mark that enabled him to sit for a degree in Media and Communications at the University of New South Wales. "When I first started uni I really had no idea what profession I would end up doing at the end of my degree. I really enjoyed filming and producing short videos as part of my course, but once again couldn't see myself sitting in a production lab away from the great outdoors all day". Darius graduated from university with a degree in Media and Communications and accepted a job with Willoughby Council as director of a community centre. Before commencing full time work, Darius ventured to Noosa with his girlfriend Heidi. "The amazing scenery at Noosa really inspired me to get right back into photography. I took hundreds of photos that week, and made the decision as I swam in the bay at Noosa National park that I was going to be a professional photographer". Amazingly, a few weeks after retuning from Noosa a professional photographer and tutor, Ray Williams walked into the office where Darius worked. "I couldn't believe it when Ray came into my office and said he was a photography tutor. Naturally I quizzed him about all things photography, and he told me I should join his class." After studying with Ray for several months Darius decided he was ready to go out on his own. "After taking thousands of photos and traveling to many different locations to shoot I decided that photography was more than just a hobby for me. Now I have started my own business, have a collection of photographs from around Australia and have the pleasure of seeing people enjoy my work." "From here I will continue to travel, take photographs and do what I love. My dream is to own my own gallery, so I can share my expeditions and the beauty of our land with as many people as possible." Please return, as this is just the beginning of the story...
